Gas Measurement Technician/Sr Gas Measurement Technician

Durango Midstream, a natural gas gathering and processing company with locations in NM and KS, has an upcoming opening for both a Gas Measurement Technician and a senior level Gas Measurement Technician in its SE NM asset (e.g. Hobbs, Artesia, Carlsbad area). 

POSITION SUMMARY:  Responsible for the installation, maintenance, operation, and accuracy of natural gas and/or liquid measurement and control facilities in assigned area as well as other related or associated duties. 

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Install, inspect, test, adjust, maintain, operate, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and remove advanced measurement, control and regulation equipment, and gas quality equipment, including electronic flow recording devices/meters (i.e., EFM).
  2. Perform periodic measurement calibrations and perform preventive maintenance on meters according to measurement procedures. Responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of all gas measurement facilities and equipment in assigned area.
  3. Analyze flow and gas quality data using various computer programs.  Detect measurement error; correct volumes, as needed, and provide supporting documentation.
  4. Monitor gas and liquid product volumes through the measurement system; ensure all corrections and proper qualities are applied.
  5. Assess all facets of assigned facilities to ensure accurate measurement and maintain the company “lost and unaccounted for” gas/product with a high degree of ownership within the established corporate guidelines/goals.
  6. Interpret and apply electrical and electronic schematics pertaining to EFM and measurement electronics.
  7. Perform audits of custody transfer and control data when necessary.
  8. Obtain gas samples per GPA, API and company sampling methods.
  9. Complete appropriate documentation. Use computer applications to perform various calculations, create reports, send/receive emails and track meter testing. Maintain existing databases, spreadsheets, EFM programs, and other electronic files used in performing job measurement duties, and work planning/documentation files. 
  10. Responsible for performing work in compliance with all corporate, federal, state, and county environmental and safety requirements related to assigned area of responsibility. Adhere to Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements and participate in program development and reviews, as needed. 
  11. Adhere to and ensure compliance with company safety and environmental policies. Attend and actively participate in safety meetings and proactively support the company safety program. 
  12. Ensure maintenance is complete on assigned company vehicle. 
  13. Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.
  14.  Be available for On Call duties on a periodic basis.
  15. In addition, the senior level Gas Measurement Tech will have the following duties/responsibilities:

    --Work with Measurement and Operation’s leadership, Technicians and Analysts to provide assistance and troubleshooting for complex issues.
    --Participate in projects to perform technical design and review of measurement related items including all aspects of gas and liquid measurement technologies.
    --Assist with the monitoring and remediation of pipeline gains/losses and discrepancies.
    --Install, configure, and maintain natural gas and liquid measuring devices including Ultrasonic, Coriolis, Thermal Mass, PD meters, Turbine Meters, etc.
    --Develop and conduct training for measurement staff on natural gas and liquid measurement subject matter and equipment.
    --Assist with the operation and maintenance of field communication systems including licensed/unlicensed radio and cellular technologies as well as communication interfaces between Measurement/SCADA/Plant HMI technologies.
    --Possess advanced knowledge and assist with monthly reconciliation and closing activities.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE/ EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Candidates to have at least 2+ years of experience in natural gas measurement, with a preference for candidates with at least 5 years of relevant gas measurement experience.

Must have the knowledge and skills to be able to perform the essential functions of the respective position listed above. 

Candidate is to, at minimum, have the following technical knowledge:

  • knowledge of gas and liquid chromatography
  • familiarity with mechanical, pneumatic, and electronic equipment used in gas and liquid product measurement and control.
  • familiarity with AGA, API, BLM and GPA measurement standards.
  • basic understanding of flow and energy data and the utilization of tools to determine the correct data for an edit.
  • ability to perform the calculation of vents and unmeasured volumes. 

 Computer experience, with preference for experience in MS Word, Excel, Outlook; must be able to input data into software program(s). 

Detail oriented with strong mathematical skills (ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure).  Must have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately both orally and in written format; must be able to prepare reports to convey information clearly and concisely.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, peers/staff, customers, and the general public. Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision. Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks and projects in a timely manner. 

Must have a valid driver’s license and selected candidate must be able to successfully complete the company pre-employment process including background/driver’s license check and be insurable under the Company vehicle insurance policy. 

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in both a field and office setting. When in the field, work is performed out of doors in all weather conditions and the employee is subject to exposure to temperature variations, as well as vibration and high noise levels related to loud machinery. Personnel must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in the performance of work.

Position requires driving a company vehicle in all weather conditions with some travel over uneven terrain.

Performance of work involves periods of standing, kneeling, walking, bending, stooping, and sitting; walking can be over areas of rugged terrain.  

Ability to operate tools and equipment as required.

Must be able to safely lift up to 40 pounds to perform certain tasks.

Work requires use of computers with exposure to video display terminals and the need to periodically work in front of a computer terminal with some repetitive motion associated with data entry and the use of a computer mouse.

Regular and reliable attendance is required in the performance of the job. In addition, responsibilities include periodically responding to after-hour callouts during the week and/or on weekends to respond to issues. 

 Note: the level at which the position is staffed will depend on qualifications and experience.
